Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) The basic idea of the "Brad Dutz 4tet" is to contrast a pair of woodwind instruments (selected from oboe, english horn, and various clarinets and saxophones) with cello and tuned percussion. This setting yields an interesting blend of the sounds of classical music and jazz. On "Peripheral Hearing", Brad Dutz interleaves composed tracks (odd-numbered) with improvised ones (even-numbered). To my surprise, even most of the heavily improvised pieces exhibit an impressive amount of structure. Favorite track: Where is the Spleen?.
